Badminton is a thrilling and dynamic sport enjoyed by millions globally, renowned for its speed, agility, and precision. It is a pastime cherished by both casual players and professional athletes and is considered a fun and healthy activity for all.


The origins of Badminton can be traced back to ancient Greece, China and India. The contemporary version of the sport evolved in British India and was introduced to England in the latter half of the 19th century where it became widely popular. It earned its name from Duke of Beaufort’s country estate called Badminton House where it was first officially established. In 1992, Badminton made its Olympic debut after becoming one of the fastest spreading and popular games in the world.


In this sport, players use a racket to hit a shuttlecock over a net into their opponents’ half of the court. A standard game of badminton can be played with one on one (singles) or in pairs (doubles). Some key rules of badminton:

- The sport is best played in games that consist of three sets of wins
- Each game must reach a score of 21 points to win
- If both players reach a score of 20, they must win by 2 clear points
- Points are now scored for every rally which begins (Rally scoring system)

- A court which has to be rectangle in shape

The sport of Badminton is played and followed avidly throughout the world with many international stars known for their excellent prowess in the sport, such as Lin Dan, who is known as Super Dan; and Lee Chong Wei who is a Malaysian Badminton player and considered one of the best male badminton players ever. P. V. Sindhu from India is another renowned international player with various Olympic medals and have made India proud.
